Cinderella Beanie

So I figured out what to do with that wonderful Mmmmmmmalabrigo from Leah:

A greenery hat.

Looks alright, hey? Pretty colour. Pretty cables.

Too bad it failed the fundamental beanie test.

It doesn't fit.

It's very sad.

I blocked the crap out of it but it's just not meant to be. Not for me anyway, I'm the ugly step-sister in this fairy tale. I have pledged to carry it with me where-ever I go until it meets its Cinderella. It's the least I can do for those lovely cables.

Pattern: Greenery Hat, from Lilith Parker's Lair of Lunacy

Yarn:
Malabrigo, in Emerald Blue (137). About half a skein. Yes, I could make another. But I haven't finished grieving. And my fingers haven't recovered from those cables.

Needles:
4mm Addi Circulars in magic loop. I reckon if I did it in 4.5mm it would be snug. Alas, I didn't.

All has not been bad bad news and mourning attire around here though. In the last week, in order of excitement value, I have:

1. Gotten a new job. An excellent job.

2. Paid off my HECS debt (student loans). Funnily enough I got this piece of mail the day I was offered the job - what a fricken day!

3. Purchased a fabulous pair of slu*ty red shoes in celebration of points 1 & 2. What shoes would beat new job and less debt in excitement value you ask? Why, these ones:

I reckon that about makes up for the beanie.

Bah Humbug what bad Beanie luck. It is gorgeous too, all green and blue and cabley. Congratulations on the new job and paying off your HECS debt. I was able to go to College/Uni without HECS. It is unfair that the politicians who benefited from free education in the 'olden days' now make you pay. You deserve 2 pairs of shoes!!!

congrats on the new job, lady!

Funny you should say that 2paw...I DID buy two pairs!

Oh no! What a bummer :( And it is so pretty too. I'm sure the job and the debt and the best new shoes ever more than make up for it though... When do we see the other pair ;)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And now I see what you mean by asking us all to wear red shoes! Bring the beanie with you on Sat - we'll stretch it!

NOOOOOOO! Can't believe such excellent beanie doesn't fit - it is fabulous!
And red shoes. Well, what can I say??!! WOO HOO! Red shoes ROCK!
(and congrats on new job!)

Maybe I'm your cinderalla?!

Yay for no more HECS. And thank the yarn goddess that you were born when you were and not facing going to uni in the next few years when fees are beyond affordable unless your parents are Tony Abbott Brownyn Bishop (hee hee yuck!). Sorry *stepping off soapbox*.

Ok, sluttiness starts at 10cm spike heels, and patent leather, so those gorgeous red numbers have a few cms to go!! They look divine, cant wait to see them on!!

Yes I agree with Shazmina. I think I'll have to show my new red shoes tomorrow - they have 10cm heels.

Love the malabrigio hat as well.

Dude. I coulda swore I left a comment yesterday. But no, it's not here. Sooo...

Congratulations on paying off your school debt and getting a new job!!! Well done!

And I just gotta ask - does your new job, um, require slutty red shoes? Hahaha. *ahem*

Beautiful beanie. Sometimes your knitting just has to do its own thing...I'm sure you'll find the right princess to give Greenery to.

Fabulous news about the job and the HECS. (My hubby got The Letter last week too - though I can happily report that, at least to my knowledge, he did not celebrate by purchasing spike-heeled red shoes...)

Those shoes are amazing. When a lady wears hot shoes, she don't need no wool on her head to keep her warm...

The new job and the debt reduction definitely outweigh the sad non fitting hat! But those cables are pretty sexy. Not as sexy as the shoes, but a close second! Congrats on all your news.

Oh no!!! The hat is too darling. It is a shame it doesn't fit.

I am droooooling over those shoes. They are amazing!

Congrats on all points (especially the shoes, LOL). The beanie is very pretty, hope you find the right head soon ;)

Those shoes are super cute! I feel your pain with the hat - the one I'm currently working on is supposed to be adult sized but I think it would be better suited for an infant at this point.

Oh, so sad about the hat... what a terrible shame. But the new job and the new debt-free lifestyle AND the fab new red shoes... surely, those make up for an ill-fitting hat any day of the week!

Ohhhh it's so lovely! I'm sorry it didn't fit!

Congrats on the new job and no more debt! I love your new shoes!!! Great purchase!

Crying shame about the beanie - so pretty.

I have a pretty small head ;-)

And I can't believe that you have paid off your HECS - unbe-freaking-believable! Even Volcboy has about $6K left, and he started studying in 1992, when it was still el cheapo.

I'm going to go and lament the fact that I really should pay off more HECS before considering more study. Grr. Stupid government.

Nice shoes, though.

Beautiful knitting on that beanie - congratulations. A pity it doesn't fit. How frustrating that must have been.

Lovely red shoes. I have a bit of a thing for red shoes.
That beanie is to die for! Absolutely beautiful.
I'm doing a cabled beanie at the moment so I know exactly how you feel about the fingers - especially when it so cold here in Melbourne and despite central heating, my fingers aren't working properly.

I am sorry about your hat... I feel your pain. In 25 years of knitting (I'm not actually old, I started knitting several years before I was born...) I have YET to make a STUPID HAT THAT FITS!!!! But Malbrigo is my favoritest yarn in which to keep trying. Congrats on your Rockin' status!

I'm so sorry the hat doesn't fit. I've gotten the too-snug verdict from other people, too, so Greenery v.2 will be much looser.

Gorgeous shoes!
